Windmills

Did you know that more than 150 windmills once dotted the land in coastal North Carolina? It's true, and four of them were located on Ocracoke. Our latest Ocracoke Island Newsletter is an account of those windmills. Click here or on the photo below to go directly to our Newsletter.

    Thanks for posting, love windmills.

In an unrelated (but intriguing) news item, the island has a visitor lurking offshore at Hatteras inlet- Mary Lee, a 16-foot Great White. She was "pinged" there at 7:00p.m. tonight. May not be big news for you, but it caught my eye, being so close to you.

    1. As you might imagine, Mary Lee has caught the attention of islanders...but we all know that many aquatic creatures (some more frightening than others) lurk nearby, mostly undetected. The good news is that few of them have ever bothered with mere humans over the centuries.
